Introduction

During the PhD in Veterinary Sciences, it is necessary to complete a doctoral training course.

This training is articulated in three parts :

  1. a thematic training consisting of theoretical and practical courses chosen according to the subject of the thesis,
  2. a transversal training including the participation to congresses and workshops,
  3. a scientific production consisting, before the 3rd year of registration for the doctorate, in the defense of a doctoral training dissertation presenting original results. This is a confirmation test to evaluate the progress of the thesis.

Each year, the PhD student presents the progress of his/her thesis work to the members of his/her thesis committee. A report must be written and presented by the student to the thesis committee before May 15th. The committee then provides a reasoned conclusion to the Doctoral College for the doctorate's yearly re-registration. This opinion must be submitted by May 31 at the latest via MyULiège.

During the doctoral training

The doctoral training in Veterinary Sciences (60 credits) includes the acquisition of thematic and transversal know-how related to the thesis project, and a set of know-how related to scientific production.

Thematic training (15 ECTS)

The doctoral student chooses, in agreement of his/her thesis committee, the doctoral training courses he/she wishes to follow within the doctoral training course package or other (see registration form).

- The production of original experimental data and the writing of a doctoral training dissertation following the typical guidelines of a scientific article.

- The public delivery of an oral presentation related to the dissertation in the typical format of a communication at an international scientific conference.

- The public defense of the dissertation in the typical format of a communication at an international scientific conference.

- The certificate of doctoral training will be awarded after validation of the 60 ECTS required for the doctoral training.

Doctoral training defense

Annual re-registration to the doctorate/doctoral training

Throughout the doctoral program, the PhD student's progress is evaluated by the thesis committee. This committee must meet at least once a year and give an opinion to the Doctoral College on the continuation of the doctorate.

At the end of each academic year, the doctoral student must then be admitted to continue his/her doctorate and doctoral training* in order to ensure his/her annual re-enrolment.

This annual admission to continue is validated by the Doctoral College on the basis of

  1. The doctoral student's report on the progress of the thesis. This report must be submitted as a PDF, Word or Powerpoint document via the MyULiège portal by May 15 at the latest ("Reports" tab, "Doctoral student's annual report to the Doctoral Committee")
  2. The opinion formulated by the thesis committee following its annual meeting in the presence of the doctoral student. This opinion must be submitted via the re-registration form to be submitted on the MyULiège portal by the promoter by May 31 at the latest (tab " Reports ", " Annual report from the thesis committee to the college ").                                                                                                                                                                                                   Steps to follow for the doctoral student's re-registration: Promoter / Doctoral student

*Until the successful completion of the doctoral training program, the admission to continue concerns both the registration for the PhD and the registration for the doctoral training program
