Alain Vanderplasschen, holder of a Francqui Chair at UGent

Professor Alain Vanderplasschen, a researcher in virology, immunology and vaccinology at the FARAH research unit (Faculty of Veterinary Medicine) of the University of Liège, has just been awarded a Francqui Chair at the request of the University of Ghent. He will give about ten hours of lectures on the subject of viruses, their evolution and their biotechnological uses.

his is the second time that Professor Alain Vanderplasschen, director of the Immunology - Vaccinology Laboratory of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine of the ULiège receives this prestigious recognition. In 2019, he had been awarded a Francqui Chair at the Catholic University of Leuven. This time, Professor Vanderplasschen will give his lectures - an inaugural lecture followed by three lectures - at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine of Ghent University.

About the Francqui Chairs

On the proposal of the Universities, the Francqui Foundation awards a few "Francqui Chairs" each year. These are intended to invite a renowned professor from another Belgian university to give ten hours of lectures.
