Pharmaceutical and food industries

The veterinarian working in livestock feed companies monitors the health, growth and living environment of livestock; he provides the necessary information on breeding and feeding, and is sometimes also in charge of technical and commercial services in the livestock feed industries. More and more, veterinarians are being sought to manage the quality departments of major players in the food processing and distribution industry.

The veterinarian employed by a pharmaceutical company is most often hired as a researcher. He or she may also be responsible for studying the market situation in order to evaluate the commercial possibilities of a new product; he or she then deals with the sale and advertising of this product, trains and directs trade representatives.

Artificial insemination centres

Artificial insemination centres for cattle or pigs are also a source of outlets but more limited, with a quota for the commitment (around 80 veterinarians). Depending on the centre, the veterinarians who depend on them carry out their activities as self-employed or as employees in a defined geographical area. They are involved in artificial insemination, embryo transfer, mating advice and reproductive management of bovine or pig herds.
