Biography
I am a veterinarian specialized in animal reproduction and a PhD candidate in veterinary sciences at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Liège. Passionate about pollinator conservation and innovation in beekeeping, I am conducting research on the cryopreservation of honeybee sperm as part of the FreezeBee project. My work aims to develop advanced techniques to preserve the genetic diversity of honeybee colonies and enhance their resilience to environmental and health challenges. Thanks to the Cell Imaging and Flow Cytometry platforms at GIGA, I have access to cutting-edge technologies to optimize methods for conserving and assessing drone sperm. My findings have been presented at international scientific conferences such as Apimondia and EurBee, attracting the interest of both beekeepers and researchers. Through collaborations with field experts, we successfully carried out, for the first time in Belgium, the insemination of queens with cryopreserved sperm, opening new possibilities for beekeeping. Beyond research, I am actively involved in raising public awareness and aim to contribute to the training of future veterinarians, highlighting the crucial role of pollination and bee conservation. My goal is to foster collaboration between the academic world and beekeepers, ensuring that science directly contributes to the development of sustainable and innovative beekeeping.
