Lecturer in veterinary parasitology and animal parasitic diseases.

After applying for a degree in veterinary medicine at UCLouvain, I completed my doctorate in veterinary medicine in Liège, graduating in 2002. I then carried out a research internship in the Immunology-Vaccinology Laboratory of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine at ULiège. Since then, my enthusiasm for basic research has only grown, mainly because it opens up many unexplored avenues. The prospect of developing a scientific career then motivated me to apply to the FNRS for a PhD grant. I therefore began a PhD thesis as an FNRS aspirant, aiming to understand the pathogenesis of a lymphoproliferative disease of cattle, induced by a herpesvirus.

After defending my thesis in January 2006, I spent two years as a post-doctoral fellow at theInstitute of Infectious Disease & Molecular Medicine at the University of Cape Town, South Africa. I joined a research team working on projects aimed at understanding the role of the immune response to helminths, more commonly known as "parasitic worms". For this post-doctoral research, I benefited from an FNRS research fellowship. It was a unique experience, both scientifically and personally, in a country with a rich history and an incomparable natural environment. It also gave me the opportunity to supervise students on internships during their studies, and PhD students working on their dissertations.

On my return in September 2008, I rejoined the Immunology-Vaccinology Laboratory at ULiège and resumed research on the subject of my doctoral thesis, while setting up the experimental models used during my stay in Cape Town. In 2012, I obtained an FNRS Qualified Researcher mandate, which enabled me to develop my research group.

By teaching parasitic animal diseases, I have the opportunity to train future veterinarians to identify, treat and control parasitic diseases, and to pass on the importance of scientific research in the dynamic development of this knowledge.
